Giannis Antetokounmpo breaks down comfort level with Heat through two preseason games

The Miami Heat's Giannis Antetokounmpo and Klay Thompson are set to create a dynamic duo that will elevate the team's offense, according to head coach Erik Spoelstra. During Miami's preseason debut against the Toronto Raptors, Antetokounmpo had a standout performance while Thompson's stat sheet might appear deceiving. However, Toronto's defense focused heavily on Thompson, opening the floor for Antetokounmpo to operate.

Spoelstra emphasized the importance of this "conflict" in the Heat's strategy, highlighting that both players bring strong resumes to the table. Thompson, a four-time NBA champion and one of the best three-point shooters of all time, acknowledges the respect he commands defensively, which will be exploited to create open shots for his teammates.

Antetokounmpo, accustomed to having assistance on defense, acknowledges the challenge of not having that support with Thompson on the floor. Nonetheless, he believes that Thompson's presence makes the game easier for him, as he can focus on making plays for his teammates when Thompson is blanketed by defense. As the preseason progresses, Antetokounmpo and Thompson will further acclimate to their roles in Miami ahead of the regular season opener on October 21 against the Minnesota Timberwolves.
