Enquirer announces Spirit Award winners for Oct. 9

The Cincinnati Enquirer has launched a new weekly feature to honor the achievements of cheerleaders and dance team members: The Spirit Award. Fans and school supporters voted on two weekly ballots - one for individual and one for team nominations. Coaches can submit nominations for their squads or other teams. Candidates must demonstrate key virtues such as love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control while uplifting their squads, the student body and others.

This week's Spirit Award winners are Keera Roberts from Western Brown High School and the Edgewood High School Cheerleaders. Keera, a senior, is an exceptional tumbler who secured first place in the Tumble Off at the Brown County Fair Competition and third place at the Highland County Competition. She practices diligently through private lessons and college clinics and encourages her teammates to learn new skills. Keera aspires to continue cheering in college.

The Edgewood High School Cheerleaders, on the other hand, are a dedicated team of athletes and leaders who have worked hard to prepare for the season. They earned a Superior rating at UCA summer cheer camp through their teamwork and effort. The squad has brought exciting energy to every football game, including a significant victory against Ross this past Friday night.

Additionally, they volunteer their time with local youth cheerleading programs and elementary school events, serving as positive role models. The cheerleaders also excel academically, maintaining high GPAs while participating in various clubs and extracurricular activities. Furthermore, they organized the first Edgewood Alumni Cheer Night, celebrating the program's tradition and history.

The Edgewood Cheerleaders exemplify school spirit through their dedication, leadership, academics, community service, and support for others, making them deserving of the Cincinnati Enquirer Spirit Team of the Week.
