Enlist in security forces, there’s dignity in serving our fatherland- Obi to Igbo youths

Nigerian presidential hopeful Peter Obi has urged Igbo youths to join security forces, emphasizing the dignity that comes with serving one's country. The candidate made this statement during a condolence visit to the late Lieutenant General Isaac Chikadibia Obiakor's family in Awka, Anambra State, following the general's burial.

Obi praised Obiakor as an upright officer who served with integrity, but expressed disappointment that such men are often overlooked in terms of celebration and respect. He lamented that while figures from the western world receive recognition, Nigerian military personnel, even those at the highest level, do not receive the same level of honor.

The presidential candidate urged the Igbo youth to overcome any hesitation and enlist in security roles, highlighting the dignity and respect that comes with serving one's fatherland. He stressed that those who have sacrificed for the nation should be treated with dignity and care, not only in terms of remuneration but also in ensuring their families are well-supported.

Obi called for a collective effort to honor the sacrifices of military personnel, suggesting that such recognition should extend to all who have dedicated themselves to serving the nation, not just those in the military.
