Dearest gentle reader: The Bridgerton matriarch gets her own love story

Lady Whistledown has released another announcement concerning upcoming content. On Thursday, Netflix and Shondaland revealed that a new limited series will focus on the early years of Lady Violet and her relationship with Viscount Edmund Bridgerton, as per reports from Variety. The series has not yet been given a title and is simply referred to as the "untitled Bridgerton project."

Netflix promises that the series' release will follow the pattern of Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story, suggesting that the title could be something like "Lady Violet: A Bridgerton Story," though this is merely conjecture at this point. Shonda Rhimes and Nicholas Nardini, who also worked on Queen Charlotte, will take on the roles of showrunner, writer, and executive producer for this new venture.

Tom Verica, renowned for his work on Queen Charlotte, will again serve as the director and executive producer, while Betsy Beers will also join as executive producer. It remains to be seen whether Connie Jenkins-Greig, who portrayed a young Violet Ledger in Queen Charlotte, will reprise her role. Ruth Gemmell portrayed Violet in the main series.

The new series will be a prequel to the main storyline, which begins in 1813 with Violet already a widow, overseeing the care of eight children. Consequently, her romance with Edmund will take place in the 1780s, prior to the events of the main series. Edmund's demise, attributed to a bee sting, is a well-known aspect of Bridgerton lore, providing this potential love story with a bittersweet undertone.

While we have already seen the premiere seasons featuring Daphne and Simon, Anthony and Kate, and Queen Charlotte herself, with the fourth season set to air in early 2026, the Violet and Edmund series is a prequel to the main storyline. The release date for this new series remains undisclosed, leaving fans eagerly awaiting further details.
