Customs seize N3.6bn drug-laced cookies

The Nigeria Customs Service, based at Tin Can Island Port in Lagos, has announced the seizure of two shipments containing Delta-8 cannabis-infused cookies and gummies, valued at N3.6 billion. According to the Public Relations Officer, Oscar Ivara, the contraband was discovered on September 2 and September 16, 2026, hidden within two 40-foot containers concealed among importers' vehicles at the port.

The two containers contained a total of 1,097 packages of cannabis-infused products, weighing a combined 1,593.83 kilograms. In addition to the drugs, the customs agents found two used vehicles, two Toyota Sienna and two Toyota Corolla cars, as well as various engine spare parts. Ivara emphasized that the smugglers had cunningly concealed the illicit substances within the containers alongside the vehicles, highlighting the persistent threat posed by such methods of drug smuggling.

All the seized items will be handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency for further investigation.
