Buckeye Trail's Sam Wayble takes focused mindset to OHSAA state stage

Sunbury, Ohio will host the OHSAA Division III State Golf Tournament from October 12-13, and one of its standout competitors is Buckeye Trail senior Sam Wayble. For Wayble, competing at this prestigious event requires a disciplined approach, focusing on fundamentals rather than the unknown variables presented by unfamiliar courses like NorthStar Golf Club.

Wayble admitted he had never played at Sunbury before, but vowed to stay consistent off the tee, target par 5s, and control his shots. He sees this mental toughness as the foundation of his success, which saw him win the East District medalist title after delivering a birdie putt on the final hole of the district tournament. Wayble's journey to state competition has been a four-year grind, and while he wishes to share the moment with his coaches and teammates, he is excited to continue his golf career and sign more scorecards.
