Belanjawan ‘ok’ tapi kenapa sambungan LPT tak disentuh, soal Tuan Ibrahim

Kubang Kerian MP Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man expressed disappointment over the lack of plans to extend the Lebuhraya Pantai Timur (LPT) in the 2027 budget (Source: Bernama). During a parliament session, the Parti Islam Se-Malaysia (PAS) deputy president questioned the allocation of funds for major issues faced by the public, including the long-promised highway extension project.

The overall budget was deemed satisfactory, with numerous matters addressed, but the issue of extending the LPT remained unaddressed. Tuan Ibrahim argued that the government should prioritize concerns raised by the people, which he stated was evident in the parliament proceedings. Earlier, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, who is also the Finance Minister, presented the 2027 budget, which saw an increase of RM40.6 billion in spending compared to the previous year.

Tuan Ibrahim further questioned the balance of regional development as it seemed to focus primarily on a few sectors due to the budget's emphasis on specific areas. He also pointed out that climate change was not given the attention it deserved, as it is one of the major challenges the nation must face in the future. Tuan Ibrahim suggested that the flood mitigation project, which employs a 50-year average life cycle (ARI) design, should be upgraded to a 100-year standard to address the increasing severity of flooding risks.

He asserted that this upgrade would require a budget nearly double the previous amount to ensure the project's effectiveness. "A 100-year ARI means the budget must be at least doubled compared to before; otherwise, it will fail," he said.
