Adjaye Associates has unveiled a new studio in Accra, marking their presence in the city and fostering cultural exchange. The four-storey building, designed by David Adjaye, stands in the central Cantonments neighborhood, featuring a finned façade and a 26-meter cantilever that creates over 1,300 square meters of open office space.
The ground floor, adaptable to various gathering sizes, will host talks, exhibitions, gatherings, and other public activities, encouraging collaboration among professionals from diverse creative disciplines. Kofi Bio, CEO of the firm's Ghana office, explained that Adjaye Associates operates studios in London, New York, and Accra, working together as one practice.
The Accra studio, built with rammed earth and low-carbon concrete, is designed to accommodate up to 180 people and demonstrates the firm's commitment to environmental sustainability and local materials. The practice, founded by Ghanaian-British architect David Adjaye, has a rich history of projects in Ghana and internationally, including the Bank Square headquarters for the Bank of Ghana and the International Children’s Cancer Research Centre with the Wish4Life Foundation.
