The Kansas City Royals showcased their defensive prowess in various ways throughout the 2026 season, despite not achieving their desired outcome. One player who stood out defensively was Bobby Witt Jr., who was considered a likely Gold Glove candidate. The team finished tied for seventh in baseball in Outs Above Average with a positive total of +19. Here are some of the best defensive plays by the Royals in 2026.

On May 5 against the Guardians, Bobby Witt Jr. made an incredible deep throw to stop Rhys Hoskins from scoring. His exceptional range and ability to go deep in the hole made the play look routine.

Carter Jensen, the Royals' rookie catcher, had a standout performance on May 31 against the Rangers. He demonstrated his athleticism with a spectacular sliding catch on a bunt attempt by Michael Helman.

On June 19, Tyler Tolbert, Bobby Witt Jr.'s understudy, showcased his defensive skills when he paired up with Massey. Massey made an impressive diving stop, which Tolbert then flipped to for the out, highlighting the strong partnership between the two players.

In a late July game against the Twins, Isaac Collins made a full-extension diving grab to protect the one-run lead the Royals were clinging to. His determination and athleticism proved crucial in maintaining the advantage.

Bobby Witt Jr. also displayed his athleticism in an August game against the Cubs, using a jump throw to retire Alex Bregman. This remarkable play showcased his ability to cover a lot of ground and make a game-saving throw.

Finally, on August 15 against the Angels, Tyler Tolbert made a full extension play to rob Denzer Guzman of extra bases. This highlight-reel defensive play demonstrated the Royals' commitment to fielding and their potential for future success.
