Why Rulani will be happy if Sundowns or Pirates win MTN8
'It is very hard to decide who will win but whoever does I will be very happy,' said the former Pirates and Sundowns coach.
Former Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns coach Rulani Mokwena is eagerly anticipating an exciting MTN8 final at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday. Mokwena, who has coached both Pirates and Sundowns, is currently the coach at Egyptian side Pyramids FC. He expressed his excitement for the match, stating that it should be a good game between two very good teams and two very well-coached teams.
Mokwena has watched several games of both teams recently, including Sundowns' match against Al Hilal in the African-Asian (Pacific) Cup final. He noted that the national team, Bafana, is dominated by players from both Pirates and Sundowns, indicating their high caliber. Mokwena has three Betway Premiership titles with Sundowns and grew up supporting Pirates, with his father Julius Sono and uncle Jomo Sono having played for the latter.
He has also been an assistant coach at Pirates between 2017 and 2020 and was an interim head coach in 2019. Despite his strong ties to both clubs, Mokwena finds it hard to predict the winner, but whichever team emerges victorious, he will be happy.
