On Thursday, US President Donald Trump is set to award billionaire Elon Musk the National Medal of Science, the highest honor the United States bestows upon scientists and engineers, according to The Hill. Other recipients of the same prestigious medal at the White House’s "Science: A New Golden Age" summit include Google co-founder Sergey Brin, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, Advanced Micro Devices CEO Lisa Su, Dell Technologies CEO Michael Dell, and Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella.
This will be the first time Trump has presented either medal in his two terms. The recognition follows a public disagreement between Trump and Musk, who once oversaw the administration’s effort to reduce the federal workforce. Trump proposed a $70,000 fee for international students seeking to work in the US, and Musk allegedly donated over $290 million to Trump’s 2024 campaign.
All the honorees have shown their support for Trump or Republican causes. White House spokeswoman Liz Huston stated that these recipients are ensuring America remains a leader in innovation.
