SONAR Rate Intelligence Adds Intermodal Rates and Truckload-to-Intermodal Conversion Savings

SONAR, a freight market intelligence platform, has expanded its Rate Intelligence offering to include intermodal rates. This update allows shippers, freight brokers, and carriers to evaluate the potential savings of converting truckload freight to intermodal for any lane. By comparing intermodal contract and spot rates with van pricing, users can estimate the load-level savings from shifting to intermodal transportation.

For instance, on the Chicago-to-Elizabeth, New Jersey route, intermodal contract pricing is around 21.1% lower than van contract rates, amounting to approximately $593 per load. The platform provides users with access to intermodal contract rates, spot rates, rate and volume trends, and conversion savings estimates. Intermodal data is available for 100 high-volume corridors, while less prevalent lanes display intermodal contract rates for comparison.

Users can now access intermodal rates directly through Rate Intelligence or by selecting intermodal as an equipment type while researching a van lane.
