Sindh govt wheat to hit market next week at Rs125 per kg

Sindh's chief minister has authorized the release of government wheat at Rs12,500 per 100-kilogramme bag starting October 15. The aim is to curb rising flour prices and ensure a steady supply of the grain in the region. During a meeting at Chief Minister House, the chief minister directed the food department to release the wheat from the specified date and guarantee that the subsidized price benefit reaches consumers.

The province now holds 346,414 metric tonnes of wheat in stock across districts, with 190,000 metric tonnes from the Pakistan Agricultural Storage and Services Corporation (Passco) and an additional 300,000 metric tonnes of imported wheat. Once the incoming stocks arrive, the total releaseable stock will rise to 836,414 metric tonnes.

With Karachi Division accounting for 135,948 metric tonnes, the stock in the region will grow to 565,948 metric tonnes after the arrival of Passco and imported wheat. In addition, 30,000 metric tonnes have been earmarked for the Hyderabad region, while 60,000 metric tonnes are allocated for the Mirpurkhas and Shaheed Benazirabad regions from the Passco reserves.
