Scott Foley's Scrubs Return Skips Over A Major Season 8 Storyline — That's By Design
Elliot's ex-boyfriend Sean (Scott Foley) dated Kim (Elizabeth Banks), mother of J.D.'s son Sam, in Scrubs Season 8 - but it isn't addressed in the ABC revival.
Scott Foley made a return to the television show Scrubs in Season 8, Episode 3, titled "My Ex's Ex." At this point, Elliot had just broken up with her ex-boyfriend, Sean. Despite the fact that Sean and Elliot were romantically involved before, in this episode, Elliot initially rejects Sean's dinner invitation and prefers to focus on her career.
Later, Sean confronts J.D., who reveals that he sabotaged Elliot and Sean's relationship. J.D. does not mention that Sean was previously dating Elliot's ex-girlfriend, Kim, who is also the mother of J.D.'s son, Sam. The decision to skip over Sean and Kim's relationship was made by showrunner Aseem Batra, who stated that they did not want to deal with that continuity issue and prioritized telling a good story.
