SAA wins top African airline award

South African Airways (SAA) was named the top African airline at the 22nd Akwaaba African Travel Market, highlighting its significant role in the African aviation and travel sector. The recognition came from the voting process involving industry stakeholders and the public. Ikechi Uko, founder of Akwaaba Travel Market, stated that the award underscored the airline's ongoing commitment to the travel industry.

The award was part of a list of the Top 100 Travel Icons in Nigeria for Excellence in Travel. SAA distinguished itself by sponsoring travel agents and tour operators as co-exhibitors at the market, providing them with free access to business-to-business and consumer audiences. These partners, Fare Deal Travel & Tours, Vacation Places Limited, 3Cords Leisure & Vacation, and OCI Travel & Tours, had previously attended a SAA-sponsored trip to Mauritius, enabling them to explore Mauritius's hotels, attractions, and tourism offerings firsthand.

Oluwayemisi Kpote, a travel consultant with 3Cords Travels, praised SAA for providing a seamless experience during the trip and expressed interest in organizing more group tours with the airline to attract more tourists to Mauritius. Similarly, Olubusola Afolabi, head of operations at OCI Travels & Tours, noted that the trip had transformed the way their agents interacted with clients, resulting in improved sales to Mauritius.

Both 3Cords and OCI Travel & Tours acknowledged the partnership with SAA as a positive step forward, emphasizing the benefits of their stronger collaboration.
