Ronaldo row and a top-of-the-table showdown as Saudi Pro League returns

The Saudi Pro League is back after a three-week international break, with the national team claiming victory in the Arabian Gulf Cup. Amidst the excitement, the spotlight is on a high-profile dispute involving Cristiano Ronaldo.

Ronaldo sparked controversy during the international break by walking out on Portugal's Uefa Nations League match in Denmark. The 41-year-old Al Nassr striker reportedly accused manager Jorge Jesus of breaking his trust, claiming he was left out on purpose to manage the striker's fitness. Ronaldo insisted he would stay available for selection, despite his absence.

Following the heated exchange, Ronaldo and Jesus, mediated by Al Nassr sporting director Simao Coutinho, agreed that Jesus would clarify the situation before the Denmark match. However, Jesus failed to mention the supposed agreement when speaking to the media later, denying any such arrangement. When informed of his exclusion from the Denmark game, Ronaldo left the team's camp in Copenhagen, challenging the Portuguese Football Federation to impose consequences if necessary.

Jesus, however, remained open to Ronaldo's return. The coach stated he was focusing on the team and national team, with no further comments to make. Ronaldo's pursuit of 1,000 goals, currently at 979, may hinge on the outcome of this situation. Al Nassr resumes their Saudi Pro League campaign on Friday against Diriyah, trailing leaders Al Hilal by two points.
