Ranji Trophy 2026-27 Schedule: Round 1 matches, Groups, key squads, venues

Dubai: Teenage cricketing prodigy Vaibhav Sooryavanshi will be absent for Bihar’s first two matches of the upcoming Ranji Trophy season. The 15-year-old will focus on India’s international commitments, including a five-match T20I series against New Zealand beginning on October 22. Bihar will kick off their campaign against Uttar Pradesh at Rajgir International Cricket Stadium on October 11 without their vice-captain.

Sakibul Gani has been appointed captain, and Himanshu Singh assumes Sooryavanshi’s role as vice-captain. This absence arrives as the young player prepares for his international duties and seeks to cement his place in India’s first-team. Bihar has also made a change to their coaching staff, with former captain Ashutosh Aman taking over as head coach, followed by assistant Ashok Kumar.

Despite Sooryavanshi’s unavailability, Bihar aims to secure a strong start to the new season despite the loss of their talented young player.
