Ontario man wins OHIP battle for US cancer therapy
Ontario man Alex Shved, who has Stage 4 melanoma, challenged OHIP after it denied funding for TIL therapy in Florida costing about US$600,000. A court ordered the province to reconsider his request. OHIP later rejected it again, while Ontario changed regulations governing out-of-country drug funding, limiting when patients can receive public coverage abroad.
