TDM, an audio startup, has unveiled the TDM Neo, a pair of wireless headphones that can convert into a portable speaker with a single twist. This innovative design marks the first of its kind, enabling users to seamlessly transition between private and shared listening experiences without needing separate audio devices.
The Neo, which made its debut during CES 2026, garnered multiple awards for its design and technology. TDM's solution aims to bridge the gap between personal and shared listening, integrating both functionalities into a single product rather than requiring users to carry both headphones and a portable speaker.
Despite its dual-purpose functionality, the Neo maintains a lightweight design of 340g. It boasts dual-layer memory foam ear cushions and a headband covered in vegan leather, with an adjustable design that ensures a secure fit without causing discomfort.
The transformation between headphone mode and speaker mode is facilitated by a patented mechanism integrated into the headband. A simple twist switches the headphones from private listening to a speaker mode, ideal for situations like transitioning from a commute to a social gathering or moving from a private conversation to a group discussion.
The Neo is equipped with four 40mm drivers – two inward-facing drivers for audio playback in headphone mode and two outward-facing drivers activated in speaker mode, each delivering 5W of power. For calls, the headphones feature a multi-array microphone system with environmental noise cancellation, ensuring clear voice transmission in both headphone and speaker modes, including during group calls.
Connectivity is achieved through Bluetooth 6.0, supporting dual-mode Bluetooth to facilitate pairing with various devices. Four physical buttons on the earcups control power, volume, and listening modes, while the twist mechanism can be customized to trigger additional functions like pausing playback or switching audio modes.
In terms of battery life, the Neo offers over 200 hours of playback in headphone mode or up to 16 hours when used as a speaker. Charging is accomplished via USB-C, which takes approximately three hours for a full charge, with a five-minute quick charge providing up to eight hours of headphone playback.
The TDM Neo is available for pre-order on the company's website, with options in Onyx Black and Cool White. Priced at US$249 (~RM1,020), the headphones are set to ship from October 13 to 16. Although there are no official plans to launch the Neo in Malaysia, the company does offer shipping to the country, meaning Malaysian buyers may incur additional import duties and fees on top of the listed price.
