Mumbai Crime Branch Arrests 26-Year-Old With Country-Made Pistol, Live Cartridge In Sion West

On Tuesday evening, Mumbai's Crime Branch Unit 5 apprehended a 26-year-old man, Sahil Nurulhuda Khan, for allegedly possessing a homemade pistol and live cartridge without a valid license in Sion West. The suspect, a driver from Dahisar Mori, Thakur Pada, Thane district, was originally from Sant Kabir Nagar, Uttar Pradesh.

According to police, Senior Inspector Rohini Potdar of Unit 5 received a tip-off about a suspect arriving near Hotel Home Town on LBS Marg, near the railway bridge, around 6 pm to sell the weapon. Acting on this intelligence, a police team, with the help of two witnesses and the informant, set up a trap at the location. They monitored the area for about five minutes before the suspect, matching the informant's description, arrived on foot.

Upon identifying the man, the officers kept a watchful eye on him, after which they surrounded and detained him. During the search, police recovered a grey-colored pistol, inscribed with "MADE IN USA," believed to be worth ₹10,000, and a live cartridge valued at around ₹500. The combined value of the seized items was estimated at ₹10,500. Both items were found separately packed, sealed with the Crime Branch Unit 5's official brass seal and seized under a panchnama.

The 26-year-old failed to present any valid firearm license and could not provide a satisfactory explanation regarding the origin of the weapon. He was also found in violation of the prohibitory arms order issued by the Mumbai Police Commissioner. A case has been registered against Khan at the Dharavi Police Station under relevant legal provisions.

The seizure and panchnama proceedings were recorded using the E-Sakshya app, as per the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023. Further investigation is currently ongoing.
