Lakurawa terrorists kill two security officers, foreign workers in Kebbi – Police

Troops of Sector 2, under Operation Fansan Yamma, thwarted an attack by suspected Lakurawa terrorists on Forward Operating Base, FOB, Maiyama in Kebbi State. This incident was reported by security analyst and counter-insurgency expert, Zagazola Makama, on his X handle. On Wednesday, October 7, early in the morning, a significant force of Lakurawa fighters, numbering in the hundreds and riding over 100 motorcycles, bearing sophisticated weaponry, attempted to overrun the military base.

These attackers, wielding General Purpose Machine Guns and Rocket-Propelled Grenades, initiated the assault against the troops. Despite the formidable odds, the troops maintained their positions and retaliated with superior firepower, compelling the attackers to retreat into the surrounding terrain. Some of the assailants were reportedly neutralized during the engagement, while others sustained gunshot injuries and fled.

A subsequent pursuit operation resulted in the seizure of 17 motorcycles abandoned by the retreating terrorists. Additionally, the troops recovered a PKT machine gun, an AK-47 rifle, ammunition, and Baofeng communication radios, believed to have been utilized by the attackers during the attack. The region remains under the control of the troops, with continuous aggressive patrols and dominance operations to track the fleeing members of the group.
