Mercedes has announced significant updates for its large SUVs, the GLE and GLS, despite not receiving a major redesign from its Tuscaloosa US factory. Both models will debut at dealerships by the end of the year with an entirely new interior and a hybrid system enhancement. While Mercedes continues to rely on the internal combustion engine, the GLE and GLS will receive a slightly hybridized 17 kW/23 PS booster power unit.
The base engine is a three-liter six-cylinder, producing either 245 kW/333 PS or 270 kW/367 PS, depending on whether it's a diesel or gasoline variant. A new V8 is also on the horizon, generating 395 kW/537 PS. This hybridized approach is complemented by a digitalized "Superscreen" display that runs the majority of the infotainment system and extends to the passenger seat.
The vehicle's price range starts at €92,064 for the conventional GLE, €99,162 for the GLE Coupé, and at least €108,105 for the GLS. Despite these improvements, the plug-in hybrid variant remains limited to just 93 kilometers of electric range and 135 kW/184 PS of power.
