Get know your Jet: Mario Ferraro

Mario Ferraro, a 28-year-old defenseman from Toronto, recently signed with the Winnipeg Jets as a free agent. The native of Ontario spoke with The Free Press about his hockey journey and other interests. Ferraro recalled his first hockey memory, playing for the NobleKing Knights at age six or seven. He participated in a pre-season fitness test and won a stick for the best performance.

As a child growing up in Ontario, Ferraro admired NHL players Drew Doughty and Erik Karlsson. He also shared that he has a YouTube channel called "Youngest of Plugs," where he makes fitness challenge videos. Ferraro had a passion for BMX biking, and he could perform barspins. However, he stopped due to injuries. When asked about his hockey stick, Ferraro mentioned that he uses a Bauer stick with a 95 flex, which he is not overly particular about.
