General : Haze: All MOE Schools In Putrajaya, Selangor Closed From Tomorrow

PUTRAJAYA, Oct 8 (Bernama) -- All education institutions under the Education Ministry (MOE) in the Federal Territory of Putrajaya and Selangor have been instructed to close tomorrow due to the haze.

The education ministry in Malaysia has announced that schools in Selangor, Melaka, Kuala Lumpur, and Putrajaya will be closed tomorrow due to deteriorating air quality caused by haze. Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek revealed that in Pahang, only schools in Rompin will be affected. The decision also applies to schools in Perlis, Perak, Penang, Sabah, Sarawak, and Labuan, which will remain open as per usual.

Previously, the education department in Negeri Sembilan reported that all schools in the state would be closed tomorrow, while schools in Johor have been closed for today and tomorrow. The education ministry clarified that schools in areas recording air pollutant index (API) readings exceeding 180 will close tomorrow, while those with readings above 150 for three consecutive days will close starting October 12.

API readings ranging from zero to 50 are considered good, 51 to 100 moderate, 101 to 200 unhealthy, 201 to 300 very unhealthy, and 301 and above hazardous.

As of 10 PM, 36 areas reported unhealthy API readings, with Seremban in Negeri Sembilan and Segamat, Johor, leading the list at 188.
