Evercade Nexus hands-on report — this new handheld might be the perfect retro gaming device
Playing 3D platformer Banjo-Kazooie on Evercade Nexus is an instant nostalgia booster — and retro gamers will love this new handheld.
The Evercade Nexus, a new handheld device designed to take retro gaming on the go, has caught my attention. With a 5.89-inch IPS display, dual analogue sticks, and wireless headphone support, it boasts improvements over previous Evercade devices. At its core, Evercade aims to return gaming to its roots, featuring physical cartridges and no digital stores or licenses.
The Nexus is bundled with Banjo-Kazooie Double Pack, two classic 3D platformers. Upon first use, I was immediately transported to Spiral Mountain, playing Banjo-Kazooie without any digital downloads or lengthy installations. The device provides improved resolution, a smooth 60 fps framerate, and nostalgic throwbacks to simpler gaming times.
The Banjo-Kazooie port, developed by Blaze Entertainment in collaboration with Rare, is a testament to the company's dedication to preserving the essence of past games without overhauling them. While I look forward to a full review, my initial impressions are overwhelmingly positive, making the Evercade Nexus a promising choice for retro gaming enthusiasts.
