Denali's Chunky Puppy Winner Mammoth Lives Up to His Name at 77.1 Pounds
Learn how Denali’s chunky puppies will train alongside experienced sled dogs for their future as canine rangers.
Mammoth, the 77.1 pound Denali National Park puppy, surpassed three other youth competitors during the Chunky Puppy Day weigh-in. He is on track to surpass his mother's weight, weighing in at nearly 81 pounds. In the same season as the Fat Bear Week in Katmai National Park, Denali's puppies are growing ahead of the cold season. At six months old, these puppies are expected to reach two-thirds of their adult weight.
The park's sled dog team travels by dog sled to reach remote areas while reducing dependence on motorized transport.
