“Carlos Has Nothing for Him” – Colby Covington Dismisses Carlos Prates’ Chances Against Islam Makhachev

Colby Covington has dismissed Carlos Prates' chances against Islam Makhachev for the upcoming UFC welterweight title fight. During an appearance on The Ariel Helwani Show, Covington expressed his belief that Prates would provide the "easiest fight" of Makhachev's career. He stated, "Carlos has nothing for him. He's just a straight striker. That's gonna be the easiest fight of Makhachev's career. I think [Makhachev] takes him down and submits him with a kimura or a head-and-arm choke."

Covington acknowledged Prates' ability to compete over five rounds but also suggested that the Brazilian's smoking habit could pose a challenge. He remarked, "We know Carlos can go five rounds. He does get a little tired. I mean, it kind of attributes to having a huge, a terrible habit, you know, smoking cigarettes. He needs to quit that if he ever wants to be a legitimate champion."

The UFC welterweight champion, Islam Makhachev, recently defended his title against Ian Garry at UFC 330, winning a tough, back-and-forth bout by unanimous decision. The performance reminded many of Makhachev's brutal fight against Alexander Volkanovski at UFC 284. Makhachev's upcoming title defense is likely to occur early in 2027, potentially before Ramadan in February.
