Bono PURC Facilitates GH¢47,000 in Utility Billing Adjustments

The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) based in the Bono Region has facilitated utility billing adjustments amounting to GH¢47,057.78 for consumers during the third quarter of 2026. This initiative, undertaken in collaboration with major electricity providers, Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCo) and Ghana Water Limited (GWL), aims to address billing issues and enhance service delivery, reflecting PURC's commitment to consumer protection and regulatory responsibilities.

Of the total amount, GH¢5,132.27 was adjusted by NEDCo, and GH¢41,925.51 by GWL. Additionally, GWL recovered GH¢164,249.82 in a revenue recovery exercise, underscoring PURC's role in resolving disputes and ensuring that legitimate revenues are recovered by the utility companies. Beyond billing adjustments, PURC has also undertaken significant upgrades to the electricity distribution network.

Twenty-three transformers across the region were upgraded, boosting their capacity and expectedly improving electricity supply for approximately 4,178 customers. For instance, the Kotokrom Cemetery Road Extension transformer saw its capacity doubled from 50KVA to 100KVA, serving 163 customers. Other notable upgrades include the Watchman transformer, increased from 100KVA to 200KVA to serve 326 customers, and the Kassagyan transformer, expanded from 200KVA to 315KVA, serving 359 customers.

Moreover, 118 electricity poles were replaced, including 108 low-voltage and 10 high-tension poles, to enhance the safety, stability, and resilience of the electricity distribution infrastructure. These interventions collectively signify a substantial enhancement to the electricity distribution system in the Bono Region, addressing both consumer concerns and infrastructure needs.
