Bezos says Blue Origin likely to pursue IPO in coming years

Jeff Bezos, founder of Amazon and space company Blue Origin, has indicated that his company is likely to pursue an initial public offering (IPO) in the coming years, according to remarks made on FOX News Channel’s “Special Report with Bret Baier”. The billionaire disclosed that an IPO would likely occur several years from now, but it makes sense for Blue Origin to become a public company at some point.

Bezos, who has personally invested $28 billion in Blue Origin since its establishment in 2000, stated that an eventual IPO would provide investors exposure to a major space company during a period of increased interest in the sector. However, he noted that SpaceX, which listed on the stock market in June, remains the dominant player in the industry.

Founded about 18 months before SpaceX, Blue Origin has relied primarily on Bezos' funding while securing significant contracts from NASA and the US Space Force, including work on the Artemis lunar program. The company's recent funding round, reported by The Wall Street Journal in September, valued Blue Origin at $140 billion.

Despite a setback in May, when a launch-pad explosion during a static-fire test delayed Blue Origin's efforts to compete with SpaceX in the commercial launch market, Bezos expressed confidence in the company's future. "December of this year, we're going to fly that vehicle again," he stated.
