“AI 조언 따라 퇴사에 이별도”…‘AI 이용 가이드라인’ 나왔다

Recent research from the Korean Health Society Research Institute shows that 7 out of 10 AI chatbot users utilize the technology for emotional purposes, such as casual conversations, emotional support, and mental health consultations. The government has introduced a new "AI Usage Guidelines" to prevent over-reliance on AI and minimize negative effects.

According to a survey conducted between August 25 and September 4, 81.3% of the 1,019 respondents (aged 15-79) initially used AI to accomplish tasks, search for information, and acquire knowledge. Of these, 68.8% used AI for emotional purposes, including conversation, emotional connection, and psychological support. Interestingly, 69.2% of 15-18-year-olds reported using AI for emotional support compared to the overall average of 68.8%.

Ninety-nine point nine percent of respondents who have benefited from AI advice or solutions said they would not consider AI's advice as a medical diagnosis. However, 16.3% of respondents found it difficult to stop using AI, while 9.8% reported feeling its impact on their sleep or daily routine. Ten point six percent of respondents even admitted to making significant life decisions, such as quitting a job or ending a relationship, based on AI's advice.

The guidelines focus on helping users set clear intentions before engaging with AI, specifying the purpose, target users, and expected outcomes, as well as setting limits on conversation duration and termination. The guidelines advise users against treating AI's responses as definitive medical diagnoses, but rather to consider alternative perspectives and possibilities.

The Ministry of Health and Welfare plans to develop tailored guidelines for high-risk groups, including severe mental illness patients, in the coming year.
