84 Locals rescued, terrorist neutralised during Niger ambush

Nigerian Army troops of the 18 Brigade have rescued 84 local residents from terrorist captors during a fierce ambush along the Tegina–Garin Gabas–Zungeru road in Niger State's Rafi Local Government Area. The operation, conducted as part of Operation Savannah Shield, was initiated following intelligence reports about a group of terrorists riding approximately 300 motorcycles near Kwange village.

The troops positioned themselves along the road, only to face an attack at Kwanan Barau. During the ensuing gun battle, 84 locals who had been held captive by the terrorists in Kundu village were successfully rescued. One terrorist was killed during the confrontation, while the troops recovered a motorcycle, a mobile phone, and two locally made Dane guns.

Two soldiers were wounded in the gun battle and were evacuated to the 44 Nigerian Army Reference Hospital in Kaduna for treatment. Unfortunately, one of the wounded soldiers passed away while being transported to the hospital. Following the rescue operation, the troops continued their pursuit of the fleeing terrorists with the aim of securing the affected communities and major routes.
