Chairman Wontumi, the jailed businessman also known as Bernard Antwi Boasiako, is not included in the list of 863 prisoners pardoned by President John Mahama on October 5, 2026. His spokesperson, Dr. Palgrave Boakye Danquah, confirmed this to the media. Chairman Wontumi is currently serving a 20-year jail term for mining-related offenses.
His legal team is awaiting the full list of pardoned individuals before drawing any conclusions. They are praying for successful outcomes in both his appeal and bail application, scheduled for October 15. The pardon was granted by the President in observance of Ghana's 70th Independence Anniversary, based on his prerogative of mercy under the 1992 Constitution.
