TouchGrass ๐ฟ โ An AI Companion That Tells You to Put Your Phone Away
This is a submission for the Hacktoberfest Open-Source AI Challenge Week 1: Touch Grass . ๐ฑ What I Built We spend a ridiculous amount of time staring at screens โ and then we build AI apps that ask us to stare at them even more. So I decided to build something with the opposite goal. TouchGrass is an AI-powered outdoor companion that gives you a reason to step away from your screen and actuallyโฆ
TouchGrass is an AI-powered outdoor companion designed to encourage users to step away from their screens and spend time outdoors. The app provides short, playful activities that users can complete during their breaks, such as finding something unusual or observing their surroundings differently. Instead of offering lengthy chat conversations, TouchGrass offers a quick, real-world experience that can be done without the phone.
The app is built as a mobile-first Progressive Web App, which feels more like a small outdoor companion than a traditional website. It is designed to get users to put their phones away and explore the world around them. TouchGrass was created using Gemma, a Gemma AI layer for generating outdoor experiences, and a mobile-first PWA with Vite, TypeScript, and a responsive UI.
The backend is powered by Node.js, Express, and MongoDB, while the frontend is built with Vite, TypeScript, and a playful visual style. The app is available for free on GitHub and can be tested on a live app at https://sk-sathyavada-008.github.io/touch-grass/.
