Syria weighs military aid for Saudi Arabia amid Yemen war, sources say

Syria is contemplating providing military assistance to Saudi Arabia as the war in Yemen intensifies, according to a US official and a Syrian military official familiar with the situation. The Syrian military may either offer defensive aid to shield the kingdom from attacks or dispatch forces to aid Saudi-backed Yemeni troops in their fight against the Houthis, the sources revealed.

Saudi Arabia reportedly asked Syria to send forces to combat the Houthis. When asked for a response, a Syrian diplomat emphasized Syria's solidarity with Saudi Arabia against Houthi assaults, but stressed that the country's main priority is addressing domestic issues like the aftermath of its civil war. Any military cooperation or exchange of expertise between the two nations would occur solely through formal channels and in accordance with the bilateral agreements governing their relationship, the diplomat affirmed.
