SkyDance To Combine HBO Max And Paramount+ Into One Streaming Service

SkyDance has announced a merger of its two streaming platforms, HBO Max and Paramount+, into a single service. This move effectively concludes Paramount SkyDance's acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery, following a year-long bidding war with Netflix. Initially, Netflix had planned to acquire Warner Bros. Discovery, gaining access to their extensive library which includes popular franchises such as Harry Potter, DC Universe, and CNN.

However, Paramount SkyDance successfully outbid Netflix, purchasing Warner Bros. Discovery for $110 billion. In response, Netflix opted to pay a $2.8 billion termination fee for Warner Bros. Discovery to switch sides in the deal. The newly formed SkyDance entity will now manage all streaming services under Paramount SkyDance, including HBO Max, Paramount+, and Discovery+.

A Paramount CEO, Davide Ellison, stated during an investor call that the consolidation of the three services under one platform would position SkyDance to compete with industry leaders. It is anticipated that this consolidation will occur by mid-year, with SkyDance aiming to replicate this approach for future platforms as well.
