OpenAI has unveiled a refreshed ChatGPT interface called Intelligent UI, which will be available alongside its most advanced model, GPT-6. This new visual layer allows the chatbot to respond with more than just text, incorporating interactive elements such as graphics, buttons, forms, comparative tables, and explorable diagrams directly within conversations.

The Intelligent UI format adapts to the nature of the question; for example, a comparison might be displayed in columns, while a technical explanation could be presented as an interactive diagram that users can explore by clicking on its components. When text alone suffices, ChatGPT will continue to provide responses exclusively in text format.

OpenAI describes this update as a significant leap forward in the interface of its most widely used chatbot. The platform differentiates between three primary use cases: visual responses for everyday queries, like cooking instructions for a barbecue or stops on a road trip on a map; complex learning topics, such as the central limit theorem or the Monty Hall problem; and on-demand tools, such as a savings calculator, a plate divider for a dinner party, or an engaging game, all accessible within the chat without leaving the platform.

According to TechCrunch, OpenAI's primary goal with this update is to make the learning of complex topics more accessible, allowing users to reduce the number of visual elements if they prefer. During a call with journalists, OpenAI's product lead Aarush Selvan explained that while ChatGPT has primarily been a text interface, the most useful responses often go beyond mere text.

For instance, a student inquiring about how lift is generated by an aircraft wing received a series of interactive diagrams in its response. GPT-6 also introduces the ability to begin responding while continuing to reason, a feature that has been rolled out globally for Plus, Pro, Business, and Enterprise plans in the Chat tab, with plans for free users and the Go plan following shortly thereafter. Payment plans will utilize GPT-6 Sol, while free plans will use GPT-6 Luna.
