A video has surfaced on social media capturing a monkey attacking and biting a spectator on the neck during the India vs Uruguay friendly football match at Kolkata's Salt Lake Stadium on October 7. The incident occurred as the match saw a minimal fan presence, despite East Bengal Club offering free tickets to encourage attendance.
The monkey reportedly jumped onto the shoulder of an Indian football fan, attempting to bite their neck before fleeing the scene. The video, shared widely, highlights the poor turnout at the stadium, with thousands of seats remaining empty even after promotional efforts by the All India Football Federation and the West Bengal government.
Despite the low attendance, the match concluded with Uruguay defeating India 6-1, with the game temporarily paused due to a thunderstorm. The event took place in Kolkata, known as a prominent football hub in India.
