Jiangnan Shipyard has selected Norwegian company TMC Compressors to provide marine compressed air systems for two Very Large Ammonia Carriers (VLACs) currently under construction for Eastern Pacific Shipping. Under the agreement, TMC will supply complete marine compressed air systems, consisting of compressors for control and service air, for both vessels.

The compressors are designed by TMC specifically for marine and offshore applications. "Ammonia demand as a fuel and energy source is rising, making the VLAC segment an attractive and strategically significant market for the maritime industry," stated TMC's Sales and Business Development Director, Hans-Petter Tanum. The two VLACs will each have a capacity of 90,000 cubic meters of ammonia.

The vessels feature a next-generation low-resistance hull design and an LPG dual-fuel propulsion system that can cut CO2 emissions by approximately 20% and SOx emissions by nearly 99% compared to conventional fuel-powered systems. Tanum added that TMC's technology focus on energy efficiency makes them an ideal partner for these VLACs.

The financial details of the contract with Chinese shipbuilder Jiangnan Shipyard have not been disclosed.
