Kolkata, October 7: Humayun Kabir, the founder-cum-legislator of Aam Janata Unnayan Party (AJUP), has announced his intention to boycott the West Bengal Assembly session while Suvendu Adhikari serves as the Chief Minister. Kabir also hinted at the possibility of retiring from active politics. "I will not attend the West Bengal Assembly and any session of the House as long as Suvendu Adhikari is the Chief Minister," Kabir stated to the media.
Kabir retained the Naoda seat in the assembly polls, having won from both Naoda and Rejinagar constituencies in Murshidabad district. Following his election, he resigned from Rejinagar, leading to a bypoll on Tuesday. The bypoll saw Kabir's son Golam Nabi Azad contesting as the AJUP candidate. In the bypoll, Kabir was arrested on charges including moving from one booth to another unauthorised, influencing voters, intimidating police personnel, and holding a police officer by his collar.
He was detained for 12 hours before being released. During his media interview, Kabir expressed his discontent with the police action against him and his stance on being a part of the assembly.
