Edo varsity lecturer dies after encounter with sex worker

Dr. Matthew Uwuigbe, a senior lecturer at Ambrose Alli University in Ekpoma, Edo State, tragically passed away in a hotel room following an alleged sexual encounter with a 21-year-old commercial sex worker named Angela Defa Jacob. The incident occurred on Sunday at a hotel in the Mosco area of Ekpoma, Esan West Local Government Area.

According to the Edo State Police Command spokesperson, Eno Ikoedem, Dr. Uwuigbe and Ms. Jacob checked into the hotel together and the lecturer died shortly after their encounter. Upon Ms. Jacob's return with water for him, she discovered him unresponsive in the room. The hotel owner, manager, and sex worker are currently in custody while authorities continue their investigation.

The university's Public Relations Officer, Otunba Mike Ade Aladenika, confirmed Dr. Uwuigbe's employment with the institution but emphasized that the incident transpired outside the campus. He noted that while the university acknowledges his status as a staff member, the private life of the lecturer does not concern the institution. Additionally, the sex worker is not a student of the university, and all events took place outside the premises.
