DeMeco Ryans makes desperation move with Texans DC after 0-4 start

In a desperate attempt to turn around their 0-4 start, the Houston Texans made a significant move on Wednesday. Head coach DeMeco Ryans and defensive coordinator Marr Burke will now share play-calling duties for the team's defense. Ryans previously took over defensive play-calling in September of the previous season, allowing him to step back from that role. This marks the head coach's return to calling the defense as he had during the early stages of his coaching career. Ryans previously led the San Francisco 49ers to top 10 defensive units during his tenure with the franchise.

Burke, on the other hand, played a crucial role in crafting the league's top-ranked defense under Ryans last season. The duo was responsible for Houston's remarkable turnaround from a slow 0-3 start the previous year, ultimately reaching the AFC Divisional Round of the playoffs before falling to the New England Patriots. However, this season's Texans defense has struggled, allowing more than 30 points on multiple occasions. The team has already surrendered 36 points to the Buffalo Bills in their season-opening loss.

With the 2025 Texans defense, the focus now shifts to facing Cam Ward and the Tennessee Titans on Sunday at NRG Stadium.
