California couple arrested on child abuse charges in horrifying surrogacy probe

An extremely wealthy Chinese immigrant couple, Guojun Xuan and Silvia Zhang, have been arrested in connection with a shocking child abuse case involving 21 children, according to prosecutors in Los Angeles. The couple, both in their late sixties, are accused of running a "house of horrors" in Arcadia, a city northeast of downtown Los Angeles, where the children were subjected to daily beatings and cruel treatment by nannies under the watchful eyes of the couple, who monitored them via surveillance cameras.

The couple allegedly recruited women across the country as surrogates, promising them they were seeking additional children for their own family. They face multiple charges including child abuse, conspiracy to commit child abuse, accessory after the fact, and dissuading a witness. District Attorney Nathan Hochman described the case as unprecedented and horrifying, emphasizing the severity of the physical abuse and punishment inflicted on the young children.
