Brock Purdy atop MVP leaderboard through four weeks

SANTA CLARA, California - October 4, 2026 - Within only four weeks, San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy has proven himself to be having the best football season of his career. Through these initial games, Purdy has managed to throw for 1,007 yards, have 11 touchdowns, and commit just one interception. He has completed an impressive 69% of his passes and averaged 8.9 yards per attempt.

Despite the 49ers' receiving corps facing a series of injuries, Purdy has maintained his performance, leading the team to a perfect 4-0 start.

Purdy's main challenge at the beginning of the season was turnovers and poor decision-making. However, he has managed to overcome these issues, with just one interception so far and continued to extend plays behind the strong offensive line. The 49ers' quarterback is now leading the league in MVP race through these four weeks, according to NFL.com's MVP tracker.

NFL.com's Kevin Patra has remarked, "Purdy is on fire to open the season, and the catalyst for the 49ers' 4-0 start." He further explains that Purdy's performance is a result of his time on task, deft touch, pocket manipulation, and playmaking. This week, he has thrown a perfect game without a single interception, further solidifying his leading position in the MVP race.

Even against the tough Denver Broncos, Purdy managed to avoid sacks and negative plays, which has been a crucial aspect of his MVP case. His stats, such as passer rating (126.2), QBR (89.6), net yards per attempt (8.9), and EPA per dropback (0.53) are among the best in the league. With no signs of slowing down, Purdy continues to dominate in every aspect of quarterbacking. As the season progresses, his performance is expected to keep him at the top of the MVP race.
