BMC Seals Siddhanta Hospital In Bhopal Over Building-Use Violations, Demolition Action May Follow

Bhopal's Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) sealed Siddhanta Hospital located in the Red Cross Society premises on Wednesday, alleging violations of approved building-use and construction norms. The hospital had been sanctioned for use as a G+1 working women’s hostel, but the BMC discovered it was being operated as a G+3 hospital.

During the inspection, officials found the hospital lacked required fire-safety arrangements. The hospital's operating permission had already been canceled by the Chief Medical and Health Officer (CMHO) due to irregularities. The Building Permission Wing had previously visited the premises for an inspection. With no staff or patients present at the time of the action, the BMC team inspected the premises and prepared a panchnama recording their findings before sealing the building.

The BMC stated that the action was primarily based on the unauthorized change in the building's approved use, along with alleged construction-related violations. The dispute over the premises had been ongoing between the Red Cross Society and Siddhanta Hospital, which had leased the building at a reported monthly rent of more than Rs 15 lakh.

The BMC plans to discuss the future of the structure with the Red Cross Society, and further actions such as removal or demolition may commence after about 30 days.
