AWS launches open-source AI agent sandbox to prevent YOLO mode disasters

Strands Box is the latest open source AI control tool from the cloud giant; like its predecessors, it promises tighter reins on autonomous agents

AWS launches open-source AI agent sandbox to prevent YOLO mode disasters

AWS has unveiled Strands Box, an open-source AI agent sandbox, aimed at preventing autonomous AI agents from behaving recklessly. The solution employs OS-level isolation and other AWS open-source AI control tools to maintain control over agent behavior. While containers and microVMs are commonly used to isolate AI agents, they often lack contextual rule enforcement.

Strands Box addresses this issue by using the Dogwood Local Engine, which provides temporal awareness to the policy engine, enabling the engine to check tool calls against an agent's past actions. This prevents potential disasters, such as an agent spamming a Slack account or accessing the internet for unknown purposes. Strands Box also includes Strands Shell and Monty for Python, which allow developers to monitor and control agentic actions via shell and Python operations.

AWS VP and distinguished engineer Marc Brooker emphasized that these interpreters help make agentic behavior more comprehensible for developers, enabling them to write more precise policies to prevent undesirable actions. Although Box enforces policies deterministically, developers must still be responsible for granting access and determining when human review is necessary.

Strands Box is now available on GitHub and supports macOS, with Linux and Windows support in development. Deployment on platforms like AgentCore, ECS, and Kubernetes is also planned.

Mega AI Battle: Benchmarking 6 Top LLMs with Advanced Bangla Logic Riddles 🎯 Hi everyone! I am thrilled to share my project for the Kaggle Benchmarking Challenge .

  • Google Gemini excels in reasoning, correctly solving the Circular Spatial Trap with 12 chairs
  • All models fail Linguistic Semantic Trap, mistaking multiplication for addition
  • Google Gemini leads with 5/5, others score 2-3/5 in advanced Bangla logic riddles

I asked an LLM which listings to skip. It kept getting the numbers wrong.

I waste a stupid amount of time reading pages just to find the one line that rules them out. A job post where the budget is hidden at the very bottom.

  • User created AI tool to check listing accuracy
  • Tool splits tasks between AI and human for numeric validation
  • Extension displays listings in green, amber, or red based on checks

PocketPause: one local AI card, then outside

This is my submission for Week 1: Touch Grass . What I built PocketPause is a small local app with one job: give you one outdoor observation, then get out of the way.

  • PocketPause is a local AI card app for outdoor observations
  • Users choose time (5-15 mins) and location for a single card
  • App runs locally, no account or GPS needed, MIT-licensed

This is a submission for the Hacktoberfest Open-Source AI Challenge Week 1: Touch Grass What I Built Most apps that tell you to go outside start with a goal: Walk 5,000 steps. Burn 300 calories.

  • TreeTrail is a walking app focusing on Bengaluru's trees
  • Uses BBMP tree census data for 72,456 mapped trees
  • Offers observation prompts to engage with natural world
