Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta signs new contract with Premier League champions

LONDON: Premier League champions Arsenal have secured a new contract with Mikel Arteta, extending his stay at the Emirates until 2030, the club announced on Wednesday. The 44-year-old Spanish midfielder had originally been set to depart at the conclusion of the ongoing season. Speaking about the extension, Arteta expressed his privilege in committing to the club and continuing his work alongside "exceptional people who want the best for Arsenal."

He praised the club's unique character and the sense of pride it instills in him. Arteta highlighted the special bond and memories they have created together since his arrival in December 2019, emphasizing that this is merely the beginning of their shared journey. He also mentioned the excitement of the achievements they can accomplish in the future.

Arteta led Arsenal to their first league title in 22 years last season and their first Champions League final in two decades, though they were defeated by Paris St-Germain on penalties. Currently, Arsenal is in second place in the Premier League, trailing leaders Manchester City by three points after a surprising 3-0 loss to Brighton before the international break.

Arsenal co-chairs Stan and Josh Kroenke expressed their enthusiasm for the club's future, stating that they are "determined to create many more memories" in the years ahead. The club will resume Premier League action with a home match against Leeds on Saturday.
