Anthropic launches third Claude 5.5 model, expanding AI lineup before planned IPO

On October 7, Anthropic unveiled Claude Haiku 5.5, the latest addition to its Claude 5.5 family of AI models, in preparation for an anticipated IPO. This model is tailored for tasks like classification, summarization, and extraction, which include live support, voice agents, and in-app assistants. Notably, Haiku 5.5 is priced at 75% less than its predecessor, Haiku 4.5.

For prompts under 100,000 tokens, the new model charges $0.10 per million input tokens and $0.50 per million output tokens. However, for longer prompts, these rates increase to $0.50 and $2.50 per million tokens, respectively. Anthropic highlighted that this is its first Haiku model equipped with built-in safeguards specifically designed to handle a narrow range of high-risk cybersecurity requests. They clarified that most everyday tasks would remain unaffected by these new features.
