A new Raspberry Pi Desktop release is finally available for x86-64

Simon Long has announced the long-awaited release of Raspberry Pi OS for x86-64 systems. The Desktop version has been updated for Debian Buster and Bullseye releases, but the team faced numerous distractions and simply did not have the time to release newer versions. However, the demand for the updated PC Desktop version remained high, with two to three emails per week asking about its availability.
Despite the team's efforts to allocate time, it remained challenging to work on the project. Earlier this year, the latest version of the Desktop was successfully running on a Debian Trixie image. This version is now based on 64-bit Debian (amd64 architecture) instead of the older 32-bit version, as Debian has discontinued supporting 32-bit for PC architectures.
While most PCs made in the last 15 years or so can run the 64-bit version of Debian, Apple Silicon users will not be able to run this release due to experimental support for Apple Silicon.
