UP Excise Revenue Jumps Nearly 21% To ₹4,611 Crore In September, 2.33 Lakh Litres Illicit Liquor Seized

Lucknow, October 6 - Uttar Pradesh's Excise Department reported a remarkable surge in revenue collection, growing by nearly 21% to ₹4,611 crore in September 2026. This significant increase compares to the Rs 3,811.70 crore collected during the same period in the previous financial year. With 120.98% of its target achieved, the department has been actively dismantling the illicit liquor trade through various enforcement measures.

Over 2.33 lakh litres of illicit liquor was seized, and 251 accused individuals were arrested during the special enforcement campaign. The relentless efforts, including raids on illicit liquor outlets, demolition of illegal distilleries, and continuous checks at highways, eateries, and inter-state borders, have proven successful in curbing tax evasion, resulting in a rise in legitimate sales and benefiting the state's exchequer.

Excise Minister of State Nitin Agarwal emphasized that the department's technology-enabled monitoring and enforcement drives have effectively plugged revenue leakages. Excise Commissioner Dr Adarsh Singh highlighted that this additional revenue will accelerate the development of infrastructure, education, healthcare, and welfare schemes in the state, as the mafia rule and illegal activities are being completely eradicated under the Chief Minister's leadership.
