TRC Roulette : Subpoena Thabo Mbeki, ANC stalwart Mathews Phosa urges TRC inquiry

Veteran ANC member Mathews Phosa has urged the Khampepe Commission to subpoena former President Thabo Mbeki to clarify alleged secret agreements over apartheid-era amnesty and TRC prosecutions. A 74-year-old Phosa, who played a significant role in the earliest negotiations between the ANC and the Nationalist government in the 1990s, expressed disappointment that Mbeki attempted to delay testifying.

Phosa was present when former Vlakplaas commander Dirk Coetzee defected to the ANC and testified on day 95 of the inquiry on 2 October. Phosa stated he had no knowledge of any secret agreement between the last white government and the ANC leadership.
